Sorio hamtu, the sacrifice to end mourning, must occur in one of three propitious months within the twelve-month lunar calendar: Soom D’era, Soom D’era Egi, or Yaqaa. The two Soom D’era fall next to each other; Yaqaa occurs five months later. They are months for sacrifices, weddings, and circumcisions, as well as for trading camels, beginning to train camels, and branding camels. The three months are called jia gaala, or camel months. Sorio hamtu occurs about a year after the death.
